So we all love the occasional crepe ( well most of us do). Whether as part of breakfast, snack, or dessert crepes are always a delightful part of the meal and a great munch on too!
Crepes are thin, flat, fried batter (pancake),usually done well on both sides and rolled up with either a sweet or savoury filling. This recipe is excellent for whatever condiment you’d prefer.
RECIPE: NUTELLA FILLED CREPES
Batter
- 1 cup all purpose flour
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup milk
- 1 tbsp sugar
- Pinch of salt
- Oil (for frying)
Filling
- Nutella
- Chocolate chips/ shavings
- Nuts (if preferred )
Preparing crepe is the simplest thing ever. All you need are eggs, milk, sugar, flour and voila! Your crepe is ready. However,we’re adding a twist to it with everyday condiments we can find at home (or in the store closest to you!). Ready? Let’s begin!
As I said before, crepes are super easy to make. Necessary ingredients are eggs, milk, sugar and flour. Mix all the ingredients in a bowl or blend in the blender.(if you prefer the blender, let the batter sit for a few minutes or scoop the frosting or foam off the top of the mixture). For better taste, add a dash of salt and for flavouring, there are a million options to choose from. My go to’s are lemon or orange zest, vanilla extract, nutmeg and cinnamon powder. Any of these provide amazing flavouring for your crepes.
Frying of the crepes is pretty important ; the frying pan or skillet should be hot (and greased!) before the batter goes in. Depending on the size of frying pan or skillet being used, ladle out enough batter for frying . Remember, the crepe needs to be thin and flat so measure up enough batter to fit the pan. Roll the batter till the entire pan is covered with the mixture. Flip after 30seconds to the other side or when the edges of the crepe begin to brown. (After the first flip, the rest are pretty easy). The same procedure goes till all your crepes are ready.
Filling is the fun part where your creativity kicks into full gear. My choice of filling is Nutella and chocolate chips . Very gently spread the Nutella on the crepe, throw in some chocolate shavings or chips and roll in. Do this till all the crepe is filled out. For the outer, drizzle some more chocolate on the crepe or switch out with some strawberry or maple syrup, even honey!
Very simple, very delicious, nutella filled crepe recipe and can be eaten as part of breakfast or as dessert. This is super basic and fun to make.
NB; instead of nutella, you could choose from a variety such as jam, cheese, nuts and berries, smoked chicken and fruits.
